be prepared

He shoulda known better - he really should! After all the trouble and after all the history at yet another camp at Stavely - he really should  have been better prepared. Dunno if we should give him this badge - u recon he EARNED it?

A Rude Awakening - a 9.0!

I slept in the truck last night ..... it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I was awoken his morning to a 9.0 earthquake. As I laid in my slumber, my Toyota Surf started to rock violently backwards and forwards. I held on thinking of the further damage being done to my adopted home city of Christchurch. What would be left of the cbd? Would there be anything left of the cathedral? How bad would the liquifaction be this time around? Would Les'
(a colleague from work) house sustain even further damage? ;0) It was when I heard the giggling and saw Rowan's smiling face that I realised Christchurch was safe! I had just exprinced a 9.0 scout earthquake! What a rude awakening!

breakfast

here we are and after a peaceful 2 hour snooze from 3am - 5 am we are up and running again.
Thankfully our internal network problem has been solved and everyone can chat again!
Now I can hear some interesting sounds coming from the kitchen - wonder what will be for breakfast??
Rumor has it some Garlic bread is in the oven!

For the first time in many many years -I left my trusty Nuttella at home and had some rolled oats instead!
must be going gaga in my second youth :)

There's something about a Teddy Bear that's impossible to explain.
When you hold one in your arms, you get a feeling of love, comfort and security.  It's almost supernatural.

Although sleep is optional for us (best chat is over our night, Europe's day), we still set up tents for 'horizontal rest' for those that choose it or those who NEED it! Our setup needed a flag pole, great jobs to keep the Scouts busy while the leaders sort out those last minute hassles with the computers

fire

papabear you need to keep an eye on the fire!

getting late

its getting late and the scouts are still going strong and i'm in need of coffee

Hooray!!!

Back up and running, thanks to some excellent work from our technical experts... And then the rugby came on, so we all stopped to watch ;)

Oops!!!

A few technical issues have seen us off air for a time. Have faith, we have an excellent crew who will have us back again soon!
We had to go a bit more high tech this year
to enable us to get JOTI underway.

Lucky we have an abseil instructor and a sparky on the crew!

JOTI underway

Big changes for this year's JOTI. Our usual location was not available due earthquake damage and we are in a good part of town! Finding a new location proved difficult as everyone is looking for undamaged locations for their regular events. Here we retro-fitting our Scout Hall for wireless internet access - going real high-tech as Ruru perches in the rafters mounting the gear.

joti time again

thanks to bishopdale harewood scouts for another great joti camp

Another year of online mayhem

here we are again - pc's set up and kids typing away - all ready for Scouting to chat on IRC network. - In line with no sleep - plenty of pizza and other junk food and hopefully many new connections with scouts from all over the world.
Lets just hope we will not have another earthquake - we had to many already!

Pics will follow soon
